How often do I need to create a new leep?

How frequently do questions need to be added, paused or changed?

You don't need to open leep every morning to think of something new to ask your team - leep handles this for you. leep doesn't send the same question twice. It starts from your original “root” question, then evolves to ask different questions and different follow ups across your team, based on the context they share with you. A single leep question can keep producing new angles and insights for weeks and months, learning from what your team shares back with you.

We recommend creating a new leep when something changes: a new project, a new market, a decision you need input on. You can also create one off leeps to get instant bursts of information from multiple people without chasing them in an email or message.

When to use Ask instead of creating a new leep

Every leep you run adds to your Team Memory, which is essentially an archive of every response, across every leep, across every Team. That archive compounds over time which means the longer you use leep, the more of your Team's thinking is already sitting there. You can ask questions from your Team Memory using the Ask page.

Use Ask when

  • You want to know what your Team has already said about a topic.

  • You want the history: how something has tracked over the past few weeks, or the past few quarters.

  • You need context before a meeting, a review or a board update.

  • You're checking whether something has come up before, and who mentioned it.

Create a new leep when

  • Something has changed. A new structure, a new process or a new deadline makes past responses less useful.

  • You want a fresh perspective, not a summary of what's been said.

  • The topic is new and Ask comes back thin, which means the Team Memory doesn't hold much on it yet.

An example

Ask "what has the Product Team mentioned about the release process this quarter?" and you'll be able to see a pattern from the responses you already have. If you've just changed the release process, create a new leep instead to ask "how is the new product release process going?" The Ask page will tell you how the old process was going, not how the new one is landing.

How are leep questions different from survey questions?

Surveys are static and constrained which means that everyone on your team gets the same fixed questions, and answers have to fit into a pre-determined format (e.g. short answer, multiple choice). leep is conversational and responsive which means it asks an initial question and will ask relevant follow up questions to dig deeper if your team wants to share more.

In research comparing conversational formats with standard survey forms, the conversational version pulled 39% more information, 41% longer responses, and more than double the completion rate (Xiao et al., 2020).

Surveys also require you to send questions to participants, chase them for responses and spend time coding or interpreting the data they provided. leep does all three things for you every day and delivers you front-line intelligence instantly.
